The Azalea Garden is the site for the arts and crafts show and sale, food
vendors, children's games, petting zoo, clowns, and the moonwalk. Special
entertainment and activities are on tap for young children in the azalea garden near the
arts and crafts. The Orangeburg Legal Secretaries will sponsor the
"gameboree". There will be lots of games and prizes! The petting zoo
will have pigs, goats and more! The moonwalk will be back to provide excitement for
the younger set.

Rose Festival Road Race
The 25th Annual Rose
Festival Road Race begins with the 12K Run at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 29th. The
5K Run will begin at 8:00 a.m., and the one mile fun run will begin at 8:35
a.m. All races start and finish at the Orangeburg County Fine Arts Center. The
race is sponsored by The Regional Medical Center HealthPlex. Request

Blackwater River Race
The Blackwater River Race is one of the most
unique competitions held during the weekend. One and two-man canoes and kayaks
compete in several categories. The race will begin at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the
Shillings Bridge Road boat landing and end near the Sunnyside Canal across from the Arts
Center. The race will take approximately two hours for all participants to finish,
after which the awards will be presented. The Orangeburg Kiwanis Club and Zeus
Industrial Products, Inc. sponsor the event. Join the fun as these boaters test
their skills on the Edisto, the longest blackwater river in the world.

Antique and Classic Cars
Festival visitors will have
the pleasure of seeing an impressive array of antique and classic cars on display during
the weekend. Cars will be parked along Riverside Drive and their owners will be on
hand to answer questions and tell about their special vehicles.
Golf Tournament
The 29th Annual South Carolina Festival of
Roses Golf Tournament will be played at the Hillcrest Golf Course on Saturday and Sunday,
with a practice round scheduled for Friday. Flights consist of first, second, third,
seniors (55 and over) and ladies. The seniors and ladies flights will be awarded a
low gross and low net winners. Players 55 and over will begin the choice of playing
in the seniors flight or in the regular flight. Players return each year to
participate in this event where a generous mixture of rivalry and camaraderie provide
pleasure and excitement. Request

South Carolina Princess of Roses
Pageant
will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2000 at
7:00 p.m. The Pageant will take place in Stevenson Auditorium which is located at 222
Middleton Street in Orangeburg. Children from throughout the state are invited to
take part in this event. Contestants in the Wee and Little age divisions will
compete in short party dresses. Contestants in the Young, Teen, and Princess
divisions will compete in long dresses. The Princess winners will receive a crown
and a trophy. The pageant winners will be required to take part in some activities
during the year including the South Carolina Festival of Roses and the Orangeburg
Christmas Parade. The age divisions and categories are as follows:

Beautiful
Baby Contest
The
City of Orangeburg Parks & Recreation Department is pleased to sponsor
the 2000 Beautiful Baby Contest for children ages birth - 3 years.
In the Beautiful Baby Competition there will be a winner and first runner
up in each category. Photogenic competition entry fee is $10.00 for
(1) photo. You may enter as many photographs as you wish, but there
is a $5.00 fee for each additional photo you enter. The Beautiful
Baby & Beautiful Toddler winners will receive a $50 savings bond and
trophy, and the first runners-up will receive a trophy. Awards will
be presented on April 8, 2000 as part of the SC Princess of Roses
Pageant. The Beautiful Baby Competition entry fee is $10.00 for (1)
photo. You may enter as many photographs as you wish, but there is a

Seniors
Day
Senior ages 50
and up are invited to take part in Seniors Day at the Festival.
Seniors will gather around the River Stage (located behind the Orangeburg
County Fine Arts Center) to join in games of Bingo, entertainment by Del
Rae and Heather Walling, 2000 SC Queen of Roses, refreshments and lots of
fun. The "People Movers" will be on hand to ride seniors
down to the rose garden and through the crafters area. Mark your
calendar and make plans to attend.


The City of Orangeburg Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to once again
offer several sports tournaments as part of the South Carolina Festival of Roses.
These events are enjoyed by many who attend the festival each year. This year
tournaments will be offered in horseshoes, softball, tennis, and 3 on 3 basketball.

The Fifth Annual SC Festival of Roses
Horseshoe Tournament is set for April 29, 2000. The tournament will take place by the Sunnyside Canal off Riverside Drive next to the volleyball
courts. Men and Women Singles and Doubles will be offered with awards for 1st and
2nd place winners. The entry fee is $5.00 per tournament and the entry deadline is
Wednesday, April 26. Tournament director is Jeff Poole. Request

Softball Tournament
Play will begin Friday, April 28 at Hillcrest, Hedgespeth,
and Adden Street Ballfields and continue throughout the weekend. Tournament style
will be ASA slow pitch double elimination for both men and women teams. Deadline
for registration is Wednesday, April 26, by 5.00PM and the entry fee is $90.00. First, second,
and third place teams will receive a team trophy, and first and second place teams will
receive a T-shirt. Tournament Director is Ike Haigler. Request

2000 Tennis
Classic
The 2000 Rose Festival Tennis Classic will
be held April 28-30 at Hillcrest Tennis Complex. Events include men and
women opens, children 18 and under, and children 14 and under in both singles and doubles
matches. Rules of the USTA will be in effect for all matches. All matches
will be the best out of three sets with a 12-point tie breaker at 6-6, weather
permitting. Entry fees are $15.00 for singles matches and $20 per team for double
matches. Deadline for entry is Wednesday, April 26. Jeff Poole will serve as

Three on
Three Basketball Tournament
For the second year, a three on three
basketball tournament for both men and women will be held at the City Gym on Broughton
Street. Teams can register up to five players and must have three players to start
games. Each game will last twenty minutes with a two minute time out per
team. An additional five minutes of play will be added for tied games, and there
will be a five minute half time per game. Deadline for entry is Wednesday, April
26. Jeff Poole is the director of this event.
