Claflin University - "Trains and Sustains" At Claflin University, "flexibility" is a buzz word you hear again and again. It is the philosophy of this historic institution that a liberal arts education translates into the creation of flexible students who can adapt to a great number of occupational arenas in a wide array of leadership roles. Claflin also believes in flexibility when it comes to meeting the needs of existing and relocating businesses and industries in Orangeburg County. "If an industry needs basic skills enhancement for the employees, we can do that," said Dr. Henry N. Tisdale, President of Claflin University. "If it is technology enhancement they need, with our programs in computer science and management information systems, we have the faculty in place to provide credit courses, non-credit courses and assist in enhancing the skills of an employee."
To meet the goals of students and to better prepare for the continued partnership with industries, the college has recently completed a half-million dollar renovation of its science facilities. "The kind of resources we have at Claflin University are here to train and sustain," said Dr. Tisdale. "We continue to enhance the labor force, but through higher education, we do so much more to enhance the overall quality of life."
